CMOS Monochromatic Sensor Comparison

Here is a damaged monochrome camera sensor (CMOS), 1280x1024, with the cover glass removed. The sensor itself has 5.3 micron pixels and was made by e2v, but the camera is an IDS UI-1240LE-M-GL. First I show a macro shot of the whole thing.

We start with a look at the pixels themselves, with 100x objectives. First, with BD Plan in brightfield, then darkfield (Disco Lights Illumination, but with not much coloration), then with polarizers (not crossed) and crossed polarizers, and finally M Plan DIC.

I also looked at the effect of rotating the chip (~20 MB .gif) under the non-symmetric illumination of 40x Disco Lights. I show two animations of 24 frames (15° increments), the first is the "live view", and the second has been derotated in 15° increments. Somewhere along the line I bumped something, so there is a jump when the "live" loop is finished. The derotation by a fixed increment shows the errors in my approximately 15° rotations. In this first trial, I wasn't perfectly centered with the rotation axis, either, so there are several issues with this first attempt. Below is one sample frame.
